Our Mission
The Alabama Society of Hazardous Materials Managers (ASHMM) is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to fostering professional development through continuing education, peer group interaction, and the exchange of ideas/information relating to hazardous materials management and the Certified Hazardous Materials manager (CHMM) credential.
Chartered in 1985, ASHMM is the Alabama Chapter of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionalss (AHMP), one of 54 chapters. The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) created the CHMM credential. This credential represents only the begining of a career long journey for a hazardous materials professional. Membership in the Alliance and ASHMM creates professional status and nurtures a source of livelihood. Membership allows for individual members to network and increase their effectiveness and scope as hazardous materials managers. Both local and national affiliations allow members to expand their horizons of obtaining technical information and assistance or the opportunity to look for new or better employment.
